This past month has been good, and hard... but we're doing ok and REALLY excited about next week. Why? Because we'll be in Costa Rica on vacation. Thats right. You can be excited too, because we'll be sure to put some pics and bloggage (is that a word?) up once we get back. Or maybe while we're there. Who knows? So keep checking 3 times a day and saying curse words when nothing is new.
Recent events worth noting:
Summer and I have Forest Gumped our way into some fun things these days. I recently got a new job working for a regional magazine company that publishes 3 magazines. I am doing graphic design for all advertisements and some layouts to come. I really enjoy it, and I can still work my old freelance job. Anyways, this new job gave me free passes and VIP dinner at the "Tryon BBQ Festival." Laugh all you want city folk, it was good. We had some of the most tender ribs you could ask for, heard some fun music, saw some not-so-spectacular fireworks, and drank cheap beer. Ok the last part isn't so hot, but the rest was a great country-fied good time.
Same weekend, after punishing Mackie on his first (and maybe last) mountain bike ride, my buddy Doss calls with extra tickets to see Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. WOOHOO! T-Bone Burnett (producer of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack) put them together for a CD, and this was the tour that followed. If you don't know who Robert Plant is, I will punch you for free. Seriously.
The show was spectacular. I never knew Allison Krauss had such a powerful voice live. She was incredible, but what was more incredible was being in the same room as Robert Plant. Such a Legend. Still don't know him? Here comes the fist to your face... They even covered "Black Dog" in the style of their band. Coolest part of the night in my humble opinion.
Earlier that same evening... (this is sounding like a crime show TV drama) Summer and I were at Salsa's eating a fantastic meal while sorta getting rained on. Yeah, downtown Asheville's Salsa's has tables in the alley beside it, along with a little bar, which is really cool. So we sat out there, which we thought would be awesome, but the rain was not so awesome. All that to say this... End of the meal, Summer says "How bout I get my nose pierced tonight?"
Now I, being so conservative and reserved about these kinda things, instantly responded with "Hell yeah lets GO! CHECK PLEASE!" Short walk down to Empire Tattoo and Piercing, and she hasn't backed out yet. Hehehe. We chose the stud, paid and had to wait 30 minutes while it sterilized. Thats when doubt reared its ugly little head, and I had to really convince her she wanted it. Because she DID. For like 6 YEARS or something. And after a little bit more blood than we cared to see, and a day of buyer's remorse, she likes it. And so do I. So come see us, and see her new jewelry. And check 3 times a day, because I might just put a picture up of it.
